Visiting Downtown Tempe? There’s a Smarter Way to Get Around

July 21, 2025

We’ve partnered with the Downtown Tempe Authority to launch Tempe TRiP, Arizona’s first all-in-one smart mobility hub. The new web-based platform simplifies parking and travel downtown by putting real-time information at your fingertips.

From finding available parking and checking rates to viewing traffic alerts and accessing shuttle stops, Tempe TRiP delivers a seamless experience - right from your phone, with no app required. Users can filter by free or paid parking, see which zones apply to their destination, and even click through to pay via ParkMobile. Coming soon, Tempe TRiP will expand to include live data from Valley Metro Light Rail, the Tempe Streetcar, and scooter corrals.

Behind the scenes, Tempe TRiP is powered by Modii’s industry-leading smart mobility platform. We digitized over 20,000 parking spaces across the 26-block district and enabled local administrators to publish messages, view parking conditions, and manage curb usage in real time. This infrastructure doesn’t just make things easier for drivers - it empowers city leaders to manage demand, reduce congestion, and plan for events with confidence.

“Downtown Tempe is a dynamic hub for education, business, entertainment and tourism, and the steady activity is a blessing for merchants and local businesses” said Lori Foster, President and CEO of the Downtown Tempe Authority.

“We also recognize that, at times, getting around and finding parking can present challenges. That’s why we are committed to finding innovative solutions to make it easier to park, get around, support our downtown businesses and fully enjoy all the events and attractions our downtown has to offer.”

Modii CEO Mark Frumar added: “Tempe has a vision for vibrant, accessible, and forward-thinking mobility - and Tempe TRiP delivers on that vision. This platform sets a new standard for how cities can use data to drive better experiences for everyone.”

Tempe TRiP is live and accessible today. Find put more at www.tempe.gov/tempetrip or click here to try it for yourself.
